PALACE MNEMO* AND THE SOUND OF THE VIRGIN JUNGLE est une série de peintures/compositions spatiales, dessinées dans l’espace, qui mêlent mnémosyne et effets d’écran, à travers des mouvements sonores et oculaires conçus par Fiona Valentine Thomann.

Chaque peinture/composition de ce tétraptyque possède deux titres, correspondant à un changement de perception selon la lumière noire ou la lumière néon. Chaque partie est accompagnée d’une composition sonore, activée lors de deux performances live données le 17 février 2016, dans le cadre de Larry’s Show.

Les échantillons sonores et les reproductions de temps et d’espace, capturés depuis différents horizons, agissent comme des captures d’écran de notre mémoire vive. Les doigts touchent. Je suis ton proxy. Les vibrations ne cessent jamais.

PALACE MNEMO* AND THE SOUND OF THE VIRGIN JUNGLE is a series of painting/compositions drawn in space, merging mnemosyne with the function of a screen—through sound and ocular movements designed by Fiona Valentine Thomann.

Each painting/composition in this tetraptych carries two titles, reflecting a shift in perception when viewed under black light or neon light. Each part is paired with an original sound composition, activated during two live performances on February 17, 2016, at Larry’s Show.

The sound samples and the reproductions of time and space, captured across different horizons, act as screenshots of our mnemosyne. Fingers touch. I am your proxy. The vibrations never stop.

Palace Mnemo

Palace Mnemo est une série de quatre peintures réalisées sur panneaux de bois, conçues comme des surfaces à la fois visuelles et sensibles. Chaque œuvre contient une double image : l’une apparaît sous la lumière du jour, l’autre se révèle sous lumière UV, évoquant la mémoire et ses strates mouvantes, entre visible et invisible.

Lors des performances, une enceinte vibreur est posée délicatement sur les panneaux de bois, à différents endroits. Le support entre alors en résonance avec la musique, diffusant le son par vibration. La peinture se transforme ainsi en surface sonore, convoquant une expérience immersive où la vision se mêle à l’écoute et au ressenti physique.

Inspirées par les rêves de l’artiste et par la mémoire des sensations fugaces, ces peintures rassemblent des fragments d’architectures, d’objets et d’impressions hétéroclites. Elles composent un palais intérieur de la mémoire, où les images se déplacent et se superposent comme dans un rêve lucide.

La série est accompagnée de la neuvième composition sonore Let it flow, qui active et relie les panneaux entre eux, faisant dialoguer peinture, lumière et vibration dans une expérience partagée.

Palace Mnemo

Palace Mnemo is a series of four paintings on wooden panels, conceived as surfaces that are both visual and sensorial. Each work contains a double image: one appears under daylight, while another is revealed under UV light, evoking memory and its shifting layers, between the visible and the invisible.

During performances, a vibrating speaker is delicately placed on different parts of the wooden panels. The support then resonates with the music, diffusing sound through vibration. The painting thus becomes a sounding surface, inviting an immersive experience where vision merges with listening and physical perception.

Inspired by the artist’s dreams and the memory of fleeting sensations, these paintings assemble fragments of architecture, objects, and ephemeral impressions. Together they compose an inner palace of memory, where images move and overlap like in a lucid dream.

The series is accompanied by the ninth sound composition, Let it flow, which activates and connects the panels, creating a dialogue between painting, light, and vibration within a shared experience.
